A year-end update

Dear supporters,

Over the past several months, we’ve been hard at work starting up the Kenny Burns Outdoor Heritage Foundation, which is named for my late father to honor his love for the outdoors and the experiences he gave me. Our mission is to create positive and memorable outdoor experiences that inspire active engagement between youth and nature.

As we near the end of 2023, here’s an update on our latest work:

  • We’ve received exciting donations of two guided trips: First, a local guided ocean fishing trip (details to follow); and second, a river salmon fishing trip for four on the Rogue River in Oregon guided by Jeff’s mom, Helen Burns—one of the best guides, and the only woman guide, on the Rogue River!

  • We are actively working to create curriculum that will support outdoor education, focusing on farming, husbandry, conservation and other activities like hunting and fishing. Working with local schools and businesses, we can determine what items and support the Outdoor Heritage Foundation can procure and provide to families, benefiting both kids and our local economy.

  • We are in discussions with the Six Rivers Initiative 501(c)(3) to begin creating free outdoor camping events that will teach kids and parents outdoor recreational skills and provide hunter safety course(s) by certified professionals.

  • We are currently working with members of our home community in Ferndale, California to discuss outdoor activities and educational curriculum that will align with school and community initiatives. For example, community gardens provide children opportunities to participate and learn where their food comes from. This creates a feeling of ownership as well as educating children and their parents on how to become more self-sufficient. We are discussing integrating into after-school programs to assist with getting kids to parks, nature hikes, local foraging activities and general outdoor activities. The Outdoor Heritage Foundation will directly fund items such as exploration kits and clothing items like hiking boots, rain jackets and rain pants—helping create positive and memorable experiences for kids in the outdoors that would otherwise not be possible or too costly for some families or schools.

Our supporters will help make this possible! Your donation will directly support our efforts to get kids outside. Please consider making a year-end tax-deductible donation today.

You can also get involved by signing up for our newsletter, sending us a message or following us on social media!

We have big plans for 2024. Stay tuned!

Thanks,

Jeff Burns, founder/CEO
